You should keep the same sized cichilds in the tank. If you put one in thats larger it’ll start pickin at the little ones and might end up killing them. I’ve had my cichlids for a year now and they started out that size and now they are about 5 inches. But it sounds like your going to need a bigger tank when they start growing because the fish will need the room to grow. I have 15 or so in a 55 gal and its about time I get a bigger tank.

I would like to say…toooo many fish. larger will eat the little ones. i have a 55 gal with 11 beautiful adults I bought when they were 1″ long, they are approx. each one about 5″ to 6″ now. I’ve have my tank about 1 yr.

That sounds like a crowded tank to me. I have a 60 gal with 8 cichlids the largest one is 6 inches a venustus, the rest are 2-3inches. I also a few spotted catfish in there but they are small 3 inches of less. Tank has been set up for a little over a year now.

I would like to say…you’re better off just leaving things the way they are. if you get more it will throw any stability you have in the tank off and you’ll go through a big fish die off of some sort until you’re left with a much small amount of fish that you probably want. good luck keeping the peace in that carnival you got in your tank.
