Whats in my electric yellows mouth?
I have a community of cichlids all healthy BUT my single yellow appears to have something in its mouth it looks like a stone? Is it a disease? I do not think it can be fry but have not seen the mouth brooding process? If someone could possibly shed some light it would be appreciated.

I would like to say…i’ve had a few of my fish do the same.and i ended up with 7 tiny fish.
I would like to say… it can be fry but it can also be gravel. at night check if there are fry swimming. Alsocheck if she is eating do you have any other types of these fish
We have electric yellow cichlids and it i quite possibly fry. We couldnt figure out why our female wouldn’t open her mouth to eat and we thought there was something wrong with her…and of course the dumb petstore workers around here dont know about thier products and they told us that electric yellows are not mouth brooders…but sure enough not very long after there were several small fish swimming around out tank. She has since had another batch of fry and we have only had the fish a few months. We finally got rid of the male. However I was also told that cichlid species don’t typically interbreed so if you only have one electric yellow cichlid I can’t believe she would be carrying fry. Yellow cichlids often move rocks when they are preparing for breeding…usually the males move the rocks…but they don’t typically just carry rocks around.
Sounds like he picked up a peice of gravel. Try changing to sand. These fish like to spent there days shifting thru for food and sand will pass thru there gills without causing harm. If its gravel dont worry to much he will adventually expell it. Now if you feed him pellets tehre a good chance thats exactly what it is and he will swallow it in due time.
